Dairy Queen: Not What I Was Expecting

We finally made it out of the house today around 6pm to run errands. I felt like our day moved in slow motion. Everything seemed to take longer, especially school. I decided that we would eat dinner somewhere before beginning our errands and called Kerry to see if he wanted to meet us there. Being the wonderful husband he is, he always lets me choose where we go and eat. Wanting something quick to eat, I remembered seeing a Dairy Queen in passing one day and the idea of a good ole hungerbuster seemed just what I needed -- a taste of home. Well, just to let everyone know that if you are in California, Dairy Queens do not have the wonderful hungerbusters or something even comparative. The chocolate malt was the same as well as the other desserts, but I have to say I was disappointed that I didn't get the hamburger I was looking forward to.

Josiah gets his 4 month old pictures taken tomorrow and we will get a few with big brother in their Christmas outfits as well. Caleb loves having his picture made, so the only one to be concerned about will be Josiah. It all depends on what mood he is in at any given time. But when he smiles, his smile lights up his entire face and melts Mommy's heart.

God, I love you!

I have to take a minute and share with you how much I love Caleb and what a wonderful boy he is. Today during school, we started talking about community helpers. The first community helper in our curriculum talks about pastors. One of the pages required him to color a picture of a pastor. As Caleb was coloring the picture, one of the best he has ever colored, he said that he was doing his best because when he went to heaven he was going to take it with him and show God. That definitely made me smile. But he went further to write the words on the paper, "God I love you." I know that God must have been smiling too.

Just to brag a little more, Caleb stayed up late with me last night helping me finish the inside Christmas decorations. He loves setting up our Fontanini pieces and organizing them just right. I have to admit that he does a very good job. I can tell he loves it just as much as I do. Maybe sometime next week, we can help Kerry decorate the outside.

Four Month Check Up

Josiah went in for his 4 month check up today. I was amazed at how much he weighed considering he is strictly nursing. Here are the statistics for him along with Caleb at the same age.

4 months -- 18 pounds, 12 ounces (95th percentile); 27 1/4 inches long (100th percentile);
17 1/4 inches head circumference
2 months -- 13 pounds, 15.4 ounces (95th percentile); 24 inches long (90th percentile);
15 3/4 inches head circumference
2 weeks -- 9 pounds, 6 ounces; 22 inches long, 15 inches head circumference
Birth -- 9 pounds, 2 ounces; 21 inches long

4 months -- 17 pounds, 2 ounces; 27 1/2 inches long; 17 1/4 inches head circumference
2 months -- 13 pounds, 13 ounces; 24 3/4 inches long; 16 1/2 inches head circumference
2 weeks -- 9 pounds, 11 ounces; 21 1/2 inches long; 14 3/4 inches head circumference
Birth -- 8 pounds, 12 ounces; 20 3/4 inches long

Caleb at his 6 month check up weighed 18 pounds, 11 ounces and was 28 1/4 inches long. Josiah has already passed that in weight! I am curious to find out how much Josiah will grow in the next two months. Josiah had 2 shots today and has been a little cranky this afternoon. But I definitely understand and he has been enjoying an abundance of attention.

Uneventful Day

I just love the days when there is hardly anything that must get done. Today was one of those days. We all slept as late as we wanted to this morning which ended up being about 8:15am. Yesterday was 9am and that was really great. Anyway, after waking up and having breakfast, I slowly cleaned our bedroom and bath, Josiah's room, and Caleb's room. I also put in a few loads of laundry. Ever since having Josiah, it seems to take longer to clean the house. Maybe one of these days, I'll get a good system down.

Kerry, Caleb, and Josiah all woke this morning sounding congested. Caleb said his throat hurt, Kerry complained of a sore throat, headache, and general not feeling well, and Josiah was a little fussy due to congestion. After napping this afternoon, Caleb is positive he is all better, but Kerry feels his is getting worse and Josiah appears about the same.

Tonight we went to church. Since moving to California, we have started attending church on Saturday nights which I am coming to really enjoy. It allows the boys and I to have Sundays completely free.

Tomorrow we will be putting up our Christmas tree. We may go try to find a new tree with built in lights. The idea of stringing lights on the tree while caring for our 4 month old is not very appealing. It would definitely be a very slow process.

By the way, Josiah is 4 months old today!

Happy Thanksgiving!

11/24/05 -- Caleb and Josiah on Thanksgiving Day

This Thanksgiving is our first in California and it is also Josiah's first Thanksgiving. Caleb had a wonderful time making Thanksgiving projects during school time yesterday. He even made Josiah an Indian headband. Caleb who loves to dress up declared that on Thanksgiving he would be going as an Indian which consisted of jeans, a white t-shirt, and the Indian headband. Today we celebrated with two other families from our church who were wonderful to include us in their festivities today. Sitting here at the computer with all my boys sleeping, Bailey our dog included, I have time to reflect on all I am thankful for. I know I will not be able to list them all, but I will try and list a few.

I am thankful for:
1. my husband, Kerry -- who loves me even on the worst of days
2. Caleb -- our firstborn, who is full of life just like his Daddy
3. Josiah -- our baby, who was a welcome surprise, and whose smile lights up his entire face
4. Jesus Christ -- without Him, life would hold no meaning or purpose
5. that Caleb asked Jesus into his heart a few weeks ago
6. my Mom -- who listens to me when I'm having a tough day
7. my Dad -- who I love watching wrestle with Caleb or play dinosaurs on the floor or snuggle with Josiah
8. my sister, RyAnn -- who through this past year has become one of my best friends
9. Brock, my nephew -- who I miss watching grow up on a day to day basis
10. my Mother-n-law -- who is the best mother-n-law a girl could ask for
11. our house -- that God provided it at just the right time
12. our church -- even though it's big, the people are friendly and make it personable
13. this one is for my husband -- California weather
14. Airplanes -- to travel back and forth to Texas
15. Friends and family

Caleb, Josiah and I went back to Texas to visit family and friends. Although we didn't get to see everyone, we had a fun time seeing as many family and friends as possible. It was so fun to be there for my nephew Brock's first birthday. I even took time to decorate his cake. We also took time to go to East Texas to see Granny, Aunt Kim, Joshua, Abigail, Morgan, and Elizabeth. I really enjoyed getting to shop with my Mom and sister RyAnn. We also spent an evening visiting with two of Caleb's best friends: Ethan and Kylie. To conclude the trip, we went to the Baylor game in Waco and enjoyed greasy burgers at one of my favorite places, Cupp's.

We are definitley glad to be back with Daddy in California. Caleb, Josiah, and I want to say thanks to Daddy for having the swing set put together, the house cleaned, and picking up some Tide since you knew laundry would be the first thing I did when we got home.

My First Blog

Greetings from Texas! The boys and I ventured back to Texas from California to celebrate my nephew's first birthday. While here, we are enjoying visiting with family and friends. My sister, RyAnn, is helping me set up my own blog. I look forward to joining the world of blogging.
