Yesterday, we took the boys to the dentist for the first time since we've lived in California. For the past couple of years, we have visited our family dentist every six months back in Texas. Our family dentist recommended that we take Caleb to a pediatric dentist. At first I was a little hesitant since I did not enjoy going to a pediatric dentist when I was a child, but thought we could at least try it once and if I wasn't comfortable with their suggestions , then I'd get another opinion. Our wonderful doctor gave us the name of the dentist we went to see yesterday, Dr. Lee in San Clemente. After our visit, I highly recommend him!
When we got there, they had toys and video games in the waiting room and it wasn't crowded. The ladies at the window were very friendly, and I could tell they enjoy what they do. When they called Caleb back, we were all allowed to go back which was my number one concern. Some dentists don't seem to like parents to be with their children. Not the case here which is one of the reasons I know our doctor recommended him. They took both Caleb and Josiah's pictures and then Caleb got his x-rays and then teeth cleaned first. Even though the x-rays were out of the way, there was a mirror positioned so you could see what was going on. Caleb loved choosing his flavor, bubble gum of course and chose a red toothbrush that lights up. Josiah loved watching Caleb and was very excited when it was his turn. Guess what color of toothbrush he chose? PINK. He did so good! He laid back in the chair, let them polish, dental floss and fluoride his teeth. He even let the dentist count his teeth. They both loved choosing their treats afterwards and walked out of the dentist with new toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, a treat, t-shirt, and balloon. They want to go back every week.
Caleb will be getting upper and lower expanders. He is so very excited especially after he saw the options for colors and designs. We go next week for the impressions. He was hoping they would be ready then, but we had to explain that it takes time to make them. I am just so glad it went well for both of them and we all feel comfortable with their new dentist.
