Settling In

Where has the time gone? It's hard to believe we've only been in our house for a little over three weeks. I have to admit after looking at the calendar, it does make me feel a little better about what we've accomplished in that time. The first two weeks were spent unpacking boxes, sorting through things to see what we could give away, and putting together furniture. One of the time consuming jobs was having to clean everything that had not been covered while in storage in California. The things not covered were graciously covered in ash.

Last week found us trying to get back to some sort of a routine. We started school back up and will finish Caleb's second grade year at the end of this week. Caleb is thrilled to know that he will officially be a third grader. The plan is to take most of July off after this week, start back up at the beginning of August and work until Silas arrives. That will allow us to enjoy those first few weeks after Silas joins our family without the pressure of school.

On a pregnancy update, I'm 30 weeks pregnant. I have yet to find a midwife or ob/gyn that I feel is a good fit. This has caused me quite a bit of tears over the past couple of weeks. I don't want to settle for just some doctor or midwife, but it appears that I may have to do that. It really frustrates me since I loved my midwife in California. The same has gone for pediatricians. I took Caleb to a doctor for his 8 year old check up only to be disappointed. He would be fine for Caleb's age, just not for my younger ones. Levi and I have an appointment tomorrow with a doctor a little farther from our house that I'm praying will be able to direct me to a great midwife or ob/gyn. If she can't help point me in the right direction, I will call my list of ob/gyns that people have recommended. The good news is I did visit a doctor (not a fit) who did a sonogram and Silas looks good. That made me feel a little better.

I know I said I'd post pictures, but I just haven't gotten to it. Every time I get a room just right, something seems to happen to it. Kerry finally went through the garage last week and found several boxes that needed to come in the house. Some of those were boxes of clothes that needed to be washed. Now I'm in the middle of matching paint so we can touch up spots from where pictures have been hung in the past. We couldn't find all of the paint here, so I've been to Home Depot and Lowe's in an attempt to match the paint. I think we've found all the paint matches and Kerry will be picking up the paint after work today. I've also had to rearrange slightly to put tvs in rooms, something that we did not to in the beginning. I would have been glad to do it, but I didn't feel like I should be lifting tvs above my waist. Direct TV came out this weekend and now we can watch things besides DVDs. We are waiting for the internet company to come to the house which will hopefully be this week. My goal now is to have the house put together before we go back to Texas to visit. I'll try to update more often in the days to come.

In Our House

Last week, we had a wonderful visit with my Dad while he was here. It went by fast and before we knew it, he was leaving. I'll write more about his visit with pictures hopefully next week.

This past Saturday, we moved into our new home, new to us. It was touch and go for a few days if we would get to move in on Saturday but I will spare you all of those boring details. It is slow going putting things into order. We have accumulated way too much stuff. I didn't pack and label as well as I thought I had. I did pretty well labeling in the kitchen, but when it came to other items, I didn't do as well. Plus, since most of our things sat in storage for six months, we are really having to clean some items, not just a light dusting. I've still got quite a few boxes to go through. Most of the boxes left are not very fun boxes. I labeled one "junk that I need to go through." That doesn't get me very excited about tackling that box.

The boys really like their new home. They have been great as I have been unpacking almost constantly. They are enjoying the lizards, frogs, snakes, and rabbits on our one acre. They are falling into bed exhausted each night. The really sad thing is that Josiah has worn his swimsuit for about three days straight. And Levi has worn a diaper on those days. We do have errands that we need to get done tomorrow morning so hopefully we will all be wearing clean clothes tomorrow.

I will write at a later time about our house, but I'm worn out and want to get a couple of more hours of work done while the boys are sleeping.

Granddad is Coming

My Dad is coming to spend a few days with us today. The boys and I are extremely excited that he will be here by dinner time. We've been cleaning, have groceries to buy, and need to fit school in after groceries. We'll get it all done. It's fun to hear what the boys have planned while Granddad is here. Josiah wants to go to the zoo with Granddaddy and Caleb wants to take him swimming. I'm surprised they didn't mention Putt-Putt since that is something they always do when they visit Granddaddy. Maybe they don't realize that there probably is a miniature golf place around here, not just in Texas.

In other news, only 4 days until we move into our house. I don't think Josiah fully understands that he will be seeing all of his things shortly. He thinks the twin beds in the place we are staying will be coming with us and that will be his bed. Caleb is excited to finally be "home." I like hearing his views on how long we will live in the house. At one time, he said 8 years and another time he mentioned like 150 something days. I explained that 150 days was not long at all. He seemed to understand and then changed his time frame to 5 years. However long, it will finally be nice to have a place to call home.
